What Do Child Social Workers Do?
Child social workers help families create safe environment for children by helping parents improve their parenting skills and by preventing child abuse. Social workers help families of children with disabilities navigate school systems, work with teachers to identify a child’s needs, support children with disabilities, work with social networks, families or communities, as well as individuals, and help develop supportive relationships and determine which children are at risk. Day-to-day work involves assessing the child’s needs, strengths and aspirations, working with individuals and families directly to help them make changes and solve problems, organize support, make recommendations or referrals to other services and agencies, and collect detailed records of the same.
